QOTD: Topic – Help

Published March 11, 2015 by lynn k scott

“Words are singularly the most powerful force available to humanity. We can choose to use this force constructively with words of encouragement, or destructively using words of despair. Words have energy and power with the ability to help, to heal, to hinder, to hurt, to harm, to humiliate and to humble.” (by Yehuda Berg)

  • Beautiful. I remember my British Literature Prof gave the most powerful series of lessons I have ever heard in my life over the short 1301 and 1302 I took over the course of a summer. She sat silently, stoically on the first day, staring out at the class. Her hair up in a sloppy thinning pony tail tied up with a thin black satin ribbon. She wore all black, all the time. She pulled her slim wire lined glasses to the end of her nose as she leaned in over the pulpit and stared out at the small class of 20 with great intensity and then spoke with great sincerity, “In the beginning was the Word” (John 1:1).

I’m not a religious person but the levity of those words sent goosebumps up my arms. The rest of the class was amazingly inspiring, starting all the way back to the first form of art, the first written words, and then on through the evolution of literature to the present.
