Gonna Love You Through It Team

Published May 8, 2015 by lynn k scott

As you know, if you follow this blog, I am walking my second Relay For Life this year.  Originally, I was supposed to walk next month in June.  I didn’t feel the team I was on shared my perspective on how important this is.  As Fate would have it, I reconnected with a fellow Army mom (our kids are both 82nd Airborne) and we started our own team:

Team:  Gonna Love You Through It

We both agreed this was the name we liked best.  Some other options we considered were “Walk With Faith” and “Cancer Crushers”.  Both of us have lost three family members each to three different cancers; respectively.

When my sister was diagnosed, the Martina McBride song, “I’m Gonna Love You Through It” unofficially became her song.  She was 37 years old with three children.  We had friends coming out of the woodwork to support our family.

While I’ve already raised $130 for my previous team, I’m starting over with this new team.  It’s ok because it’s for a great cause.  I created a Facebook page for our team.  The page will allow us to connect to our local community as well as the rest of the country or beyond.  We can keep the page going all year long and work to raise awareness and continue fundraising for subsequent Relays.

It was a very emotional decision to leave my previous Relay team and I wish them the best.  This new endeavor feels “right” and allows me to honor my sister, mother and father; all had cancer; two lost their cancer battles.   I was secretly ecstatic my friend liked the first team name best.  It’s just a sign that this was the right decision in my Relay quest.

I am excited to work with my friend again and watch our team grow.  If you would like to make a tax-deductible donation to the Gonna Love You Through It Team, please click the link will direct you to our fundraising page through the American Cancer Society.

If you are so inclined, I’d ask you share this information, or at least our FaceBook page, to help promote our team and the Relay.  The American Cancer Society does some amazing work and the Relays are just one way they accomplish their many goals.

Thank you for your support!
