The opening line to one of my favorite songs….
“Dearly beloved, we are gathered here today, to get through this thing called life.” While some might not realize it, those words were from a song, performed by an 80s icon, who sadly, passed away today: April 21, 2016.
Prince Rogers Nelson, known to most by Prince, was an amazing, multi-talented musician. If you grew up in the 1980s, you were part of the generation who belted out “Let’s Go Crazy” or might have been shocked to find out the meaning behind “Little Red Corvette”. The turn of the century revamped “1999” and we all partied that year!
Who can forget the movie, “Purple Rain”, which we were able to watch Prince in the big screen. After all, he was infamous for his lack of interviews or keeping his videos off the internet. Having a movie that he starred in was fan-heaven. I was never fond of motorcycles, but a purple motorcycle definitely piqued my interest!
Then there was a point, when Prince and his record label didn’t see eye to eye. He legally changed his name to a symbol and became, “the artist, formerly known as Prince”. He did eventually change his name back.
I admit, I shed a tear or two today. Normally, celebrity deaths don’t affect me too badly, but this one did. I felt a part of my childhood die. It seems as if it’s slipping away.
Some of my favorite Prince songs were:
- Let’s Go Crazy
- 1999
- Thieves in the Temple
- Raspberry Beret
- Thieves in the Temple
Let’s go crazy, when the dove’s fly, in the purple rain!
