Last night I stopped by the ATM for a bit of cash. I noticed the machine was blinking and then said, “transaction cancelled”. Right after that, an ATM popped out. I couldn’t help but say, “oh wow”!
I removed the card, completed my transaction and got back in my truck. My husband pulled over so I could try to do a Google search and maybe find the owner; no luck. I called the bank, reported the card found. They deactivated the card and noted a ‘good samaritan’ called it in.
I personally would be freaking out if I lost my ATM card. I have so many linked accounts to it. However, I turned it into a teaching moment for my daughter. I explained that if someone else had found the card, they might not be able to withdraw money, but they could use it online.
If a less-than-honest person found the card, they only needed the information on the card to make online purchases. It could have created a huge mess for the card owner. I explained how it was important to do the right thing.
Hopefully, the owner of the card realizes it is missing, calls his bank and starts the process of getting a replacement card. At least there won’t be any unauthorized charges for him to deal with.
