Several years ago, I had the privilege of “meeting” singer, Jimmy Parker. I first “met” Jimmy in a military radio station chat room. It was there that I first heard the song, “A Soldier Is Worth It To Me“.
It conveys the simple message of how easy it is to be appreciative to our military and their families for the sacrifices they make in order to keep us free.
It’s a simple song but the message has always stayed with me, because it’s an important one. I have thanked many military personnel, with gift boxes, coffee, letters, standing in a flag line with the Patriot Guard Riders, a handshake and/or a hug.
Take a moment to extend thanks to our service personnel the next time you see them. They really do appreciate it.
A Soldier is gone to fight a great war.
It’s our freedom, you know, that he’s fighting for.
One day comes a knock on the front door;
Standing there are men you’ve never seen before.
“We regret to inform you….” you start to hear.
You hold your breath as you begin to tear.
You start to cry, your breaking heart knows.
This is the end, you know how it goes.
A Prayer is said there on your knees.
My Soldier, My son your duty is done.
You’ve fought and were brave; making us so proud.
Living with angels; on every white cloud.
Rest and know you have found peace.
Knowing that your memory is always with me,
Deep in my Heart, where it should be.
*Dedicated to all the Gold Star parents, whose children gave all.*
