I’m becoming discouraged that January 2016 has me saying goodbye to singers and actors who have passed. This has been less than a stellar month for those who have said farewell to the Earthly plain have have descended to the Heavens.
Today, Glenn Frey, one of the founding Eagles, has also left “us” at the tender age of 67. I love listening to the Eagles. “Desperado” was the first Eagles song I can remember. “Take It Easy”, “Lyin’ Eyes”, “Hotel California” are just a snippet of their songs.
If you haven’t read about his passing, you can do so here.
My first, true experience with Glenn Frey, turning a teen into a fan, was a little movie called, “Beverly Hills Cop” where the “Heat is On”.
Then there was a little television show called, “Miami Vice”. You know that show had drug dealers left and right. Perfect to sing about “The Smuggler’s Blues”. Glenn even appeared in an episode (maybe it was two).
Either way, Glenn was a talented artist and he will be missed by many.
I have reached out to a friend of mine. You may recall I’ve spoken about him in the past; Dan Angeles. He’s an artist, based in Texas, and he and I are the gift to each other that my sister left us.
As the Pink Herald was created and dedicated to my sister’s life and memory, I asked Dan for a special project. I asked if he would be interested in creating a customized logo for my website. He graciously agreed to do so.
I have given him free reign on the image as he knew my sister and he knows me. He is going to create something that embraces both our spirits. I have no doubt or reservations, that whatever he comes up with, will be amazing, poignant and reduce me to tears immediately when I gaze upon the image.
I offered to purchase the logo, however, Dan came up with a better solution. He will create the painting, sell it and then send the image to me. The buyer will be aware it’s a blog logo, but they will still own a masterpiece by one of today’s most talented watercolor artists.
Dan has a show opening at the “P Street Gallery” in Washington D.C. tonight; April 17, 2015. If you’re in the area, please stop by and say hello. His images are colorful and moving.
I know I have a few weeks to wait to see what he comes up with, but I’m excited for the next chapter to unfold with this blog.
Thank you all for your support!
A package arrived at my job today. It was primarily for the lil miss. She had traded a painting of hers for a friend’s piece (not pictured). You can learn more on how this exchange cam about in a previous post: My Budding Artist.
Inside the package was a 4″ X 6″ slip of paper. A heart – felt note penned on the back.
I remember when I first saw this piece. I thought, “How Harry Potterish” as well as, “those would be the coolest lamps ever!!!”
“Collecting Bright Ideas” by Daniel Angeles
Needless to say it brought me to tears because it made me think of Kathi (my sister – see “About” page). I will put it in a frame tonight and then it will sit on my desk at work; right next to the pic of the lil miss.
When I can afford to custom order one of Daniel Angeles’ paintings, I will need to take a day off when it’s delivered. I have a feeling, the larger the painting, the larger the breakdown.
Funny how someone you only met online, could have such a profound influence on your life. Kathi left me a remarkable gift in Dan’s friendship.
